A Live Performance Featuring Josi Kat!
A Live Performance Featuring Josi Kat!
NEW YORK AT NIGHT UPDATE
Ladies and Gentlemen; Boys and Girls—GREETINGS!
Yes, it has been a while! I’ve missed everyone tremendously. I’ve been taking some continuing educational courses and I also lost a near and dear family member recently.
I just returned from Los Angeles, CA where I reunited with dear friends and relatives that I rarely see or spend enough quality time with.
However, I did manage to catch a special performance with singer, Josi Kat at the American Legion Hall in the middle of Highland Park (I managed to find the club despite my lack of driving abilities here on the East Coast).
Josi Kat is always an inspirational burst of energy and it was also a real treat flying back on Jet Blue with her from Burbank to JFK.
Little did either of us know that an earthquake was going to hit New York City, then a freakin’ hurricane.
All-in-all, it does feel wonderful to back to my routine and I am super excited about Fashion Night Out and the Spring/Summer Collections of 2012.
Please check back for my favorite pix next month.
THE LUXURY EVENT AT ROUGE TOMATE
THE LUXURY EVENT AT ROUGE TOMATE
THE LUXURY EVENT
New York is truly the city that never sleeps and neither do I. It’s the perfect place to live for individuals suffering from mild to extreme cases of ADD as well as insomnia.
Right after Fashion Week, there seemed to be other events that were also quite glamorous starting off with the Luxury Event at Rouge Tomate.
I stopped by an art opening at Milk downtown beforehand and therefore ended up in Midtown kind of late, so I managed to meet the vendors towards the end of the evening, just before it was wrapping up.
Even though New York seems to be this great big giant city with a million faces going to thousands of different destinations; I often find myself running into the same people that I barely know time and time again.
Most recently, The Essence of Vali Founder and CEO, always greets me with a familiar smile and hands me samples of her awesome products which happen to be derived from plant essences and natural oils. I highly recommend the Sleep Bedtime Ritual, for fellow restless New Yorkers in need of some quality rest. The EOV, Eau De Parfum is also quite amazing and the scent has a luxury, high-end spa sort of vibe to it. Her products are quite good and even rival Aveda, but on a smaller, less corporate scale. Please visit: http://www.essenceofvali.com for more information.
The sales representative for Princess Theodora gave a Ziploc bag filled with travel sizes of their rose based products which I plan on bringing with me on my next trip to California to try out. “Like the fragrant petals of a rose an inner princess blooms from a well-tended soul.” Let Your Inner Princess Bloom, are just part of the company’s tag lines and am anxious to try these vegan products out. Visit: http://www.PrincessTheodora.com.
On the subject of roses, the Rose Marie Coconut Organic Sugar Scrubs must be one of my favorite products ever! The fragrance reminds me of Hawaii and the granules easily made by body feel smooth and sexy while smelling very tropical all at the same time. Yum.
The PR team behind Dr.Loretta was very friendly as well and approachable. Dr. Loretta is a dermatologist and she has launched her own skin care line, “The Next Generation Moisturizer” and it protects the skin 100 percent from UVA/UVB and free radical damage, the strongest anti-oxidant on the market. I was generously given two travel sets to try out. I started off with the all over face cream, followed by the eye cream and then last product was called, Youth Fill and it is a safe alternative to botox and eases the appearance of fine lines. Please visit: http://www.Dr.Loretta.com for more information.
Just before heading out, I met Marek Hewryk, President of MH and 4V00. MH is the women’s line and 4V00 is made just for men. 4V00 has foundation for guys that’s called a corrector to even out skin tone. These products are a hit over in Canada and are now here in the states making Americans more beautiful everyday. For a complete product list visit: http://www.4voo.com or http://www.hewryk.com.

FNO and The Fashion Week Wrap-Up SS11
FNO and The Fashion Week Wrap-Up SS11
FASHION NIGHT OUT AND THE WRAP-UP OF SS11
After the excitement of seeing Alexander Berrardi up close backstage and being inspired by a collection that was very tasteful complete with designs drawn from the French Rivera influence; sexy stripes and glamorous, yet very versatile dresses, we tried our best to pinpoint an itinerary for our Fashion Night Out crawl in hopes that we would also make a fashion statement that evening.
We started off in midtown at Nine West and Blanc de Chine then over to Sony on Madison as well as Monteblanc (where I managed to win movie tickets to the “Nowhere Boy” screening) and later over to Rockefeller Center in search of either the Payless Bus or the Volkswagen private car and driver promotion to take us down to the Meatpacking District or at least somewhere near 14th Street to meet up with more friends.
After walking all around 47th-50th Streets, we finally spotted the Volkswagen promotion and then waited about 45 minutes for our ride while each of us experienced intense foot pain from a day of non-stop running around in high heels.
Our driver, was an off-duty NY Firefighter (apparently Volkswagen hired NY Police and Firefighters to drive around editors, shoppers and anyone needed a ride between Rockefeller Center and Soho) that night, exclusively for FNO; but there was definitely a long, long wait.
The familiar voice that greeted us inside our car was fashion designer icon, Diane Von Furstenberg, but at the time we were not so impressed, just bitter from too much alcohol and too little food (fashion week is definitely not for the faint of heart, or hungry, for that matter).
As we sat in bumper-to-bumper traffic, one by one, some of my friends in the car asked to get out and walk to their next destination. Our driver requested at least one of stay inside the vehicle until we made it down to Soho. Once we arrived and exited, it was a complete rat race-- literally. Hundreds of thousands of humans surrounded each other on the streets of Soho; it was a human blockade everywhere we turned! We could not even cross the street because we were sandwiched in between so many bodies! I can only image how Time Square must be after the ball drops on New Year’s Eve (this is why I have never wanted to partake--ever).
My mom asked me where we could get some dinner; we only noticed a few random ice cream trucks, (she gave me a dirty look when I pointed this out). Once we weaved and squeezed our way through the masses on Prince Street and then down on Broadway, we stopped into about five different restaurants and no one was serving. Our FNO was turning into a bad B-movie horror film and we were going to starve and be eaten by the faceless, nameless humans that were just behind us. Until, we made into Umberto’s Clam House in Little Italy. When I suggested we try and find the Gold Bar for the Bijules party (since that was also on our list); Mom replied, “Maybe after some food...” I noticed the address on the menu and the Gold Bar was actually across the street! We stopped in for some cocktails and waited another hour for a car service, but managed to make it home before the sun came up in the morning.
Saturday evening started off with me falling into a pothole on the streets on Sixth Avenue, not the most chic way to walk into the Manuel de la Cruz Presentation at the Met Pavilion, but just something that comes with the territory, I suppose.
Afterwards, we ended up on Jane Street for the Whitney Eve presentation where candy colored dreams really do come true with models sporting bright, sexy dresses and guests were able to nibble on cupcakes and other sugary delights.
Sunday afternoon, we went to brunch with a friend from Burbank and convinced him to step into the very sophisticated world of Fashion Week! Once we arrived at the show, little did we realize that it was all about children! My friend turned to me and said, “High heels and babies, not a good combination…I am leaving. Thanks.” Not even Denise Richards or Alex McCord from the Housewives of New York could stop him; mind you, this was his first ever fashion show and he needed to do something really New York before heading back to Burbank (or something like that, he told us).
The intensity of FW was beginning to catch up with us. We had about four other shows confirmed, but made it to two.
Back up at the tents, the Trias show was about to begin.
The Spring/Summer collection, designed by Joaquin Trias, featured fabrics and colors were the result of extensive research and development, creating a balanced union with the silhouette. Structure and texture combined to chill the warm colors into cold ones to create an energetic color spectrum.
Our last stop for the evening was at Sally LaPointe. This was one of the shows I wanted to see most, especially because the invitation I was sent doubled a giant mirror. Back down and over in Chelsea Art district, we were anxious to see the designer’s vision on display. The show opened with dry ice and two male models’s opening what looked like a giant vault. The female model’s sported futuristic ensembles complete with ponytails and space boots.
On Monday, my Mom decided she had had enough of FW. I decided to stop over at the Townhouse Spa for a complimentary manicure and pedicure as well as a cocktail.
I apologize for not making it to the other shows I was confirmed for, but I was just too exhausted.
Fashion Week ended for me at the Loris Diran presentation at the Audi Showroom. The space was perfect and sprawling. The models were on a circular conveyer belt which was a perfect idea because guests were able to see each and every piece of the SS11 collection.
Overall all of the designers and collections were hit and played a huge part in boosting the nation’s economy by hiring everyone from security, to the models, caterers, cab drivers, stylists, you name it!
And that my friends, is a wrap! Hope you enjoyed my experience at FW SS11!
FASHION WEEK SPRING 2011 REVIEW PART 1
FASHION WEEK SPRING 2011 REVIEW PART 1
FASHION WEEK AT LINCOLN CENTER SPRING 2011
PART 1
Fashion Week Spring 2011 was unique this year, not only because the tents were uprooted from Bryant Park and transplanted over to Lincoln Center; but because my Mom was here in town with me to experience the frenzy!
Upon her arrival, we decided to rest-up before the official kick-off, the following day.
As I made my journey into my office downtown the next morning, Mom headed over to Antonio Prieto to have the legendary, hunky, “modelesque,” Nick transform her jet-lagged tresses into a runway-ready look just in time to partake in the Fashion Night Out extravaganza.
My mom’s first fashion presentation took place at the Standard Hotel for Suzanne Rae. She was very impressed from the moment she entered the elevator and was transfixed on the videos displayed even before she reached her destination to see the clothes! Once inside, she told me that it was indeed a swank affair complete with scrumptious margarita’s and quail egg delicacies. The Suzanne Rae Spring 2011 Collection was elegant yet very wearable and was very pleased with the overall execution of the event.
In the early evening, Mom and I attended the Concept Korea show in the big tent at Lincoln Center. It was a real treat to see the same security guys from the previous Bryant Park shows at the entrance. They also seemed to get a kick out of all the familiar faces from seasons past as well.
Concept Korea was larger than life with three very different designers in the show. The last collection featured avant-garde wedding dresses with model’s sporting one orange false eyelash with makeup that must have been borrowed from a Cirque Du Soleil show; it was freaky and cool.
Friday afternoon, Mom and I headed over to Milk Studios for the Costello Tagliapietra show. The two us loved spotting the one and only, Andre’ Leon Talley seated in the front row posing for all of the photographers.
The Costello Tagliapietra show displayed some of the most luminous, flowy dresses that any gal would proudly wear anywhere from the office, to brunch with friends or for cocktails; even a hot date after work!
Just around the corner, Nary Manivong was hosting a presentation at a local hair salon. As I searched high and low for his “easy-on-the-eyes face” I noticed that he had cut off his luscious long locks in favor of any edgy short look. I gave him a hug and said, “Wow, you good with short hair. He smiled widely and whispered to me, “No, behind you.” As I sheepishly looked over my shoulder in horror, little did I know that Nary Manivong had a twin brother! Say it with me folks, “DUH!” I could not wait to make a mad dash out the door. Oh boy, was I ever embarrassed!!
Back over at the tents, the Alexander Berradri show was about to go on and yet another dilemma was about to unfold, I had only one seat assignment and offered it to my Mom, but she was frightened by all of the over-the-top fashionistas. She did not want to get trampled by some anorexic editor’s Louboutin’s. As luck would have it, the nice people at Mao PR gave us each entry into the show and we sat front row center. Score. Afterwards, we went back stage to get a closer look at the up-and-coming designer.

Levi’s Curve ID Writer’s Event
When it comes to blue jeans, they seem almost as American as apple pie, they are fashion a staple for casual Friday’s in office buildings from coast-to-coast and perfect to wear with a sexy blouse and strappy heels for drinks afterwards with friends and colleagues.
Skinny jeans, cigarette pants, boot-cut—you name it! Most recently, Levi’s has revolutionized the way women will wear and shop for denim from now; introducing, “Levi’s Fit Curve ID” has taken into account that women’s bodies are all very unique.
During last week’s press launch, three models demonstrated the brand-new fit system that women will wear and shop for denim from now on. Levi’s first introduced blue jeans to gals over 75 years ago. For more information, please visit: http://www.levis.com to find a store near you.
TOULA LAUNCH
TOULA LAUNCH
As we gear up for Fashion Week to get a sneak peek what will be in style for Spring 2011, we eagerly await the new Lincoln Center locale and to see the reviews now that Bryant Park is in our distant memory. In a world of ultra-high, glossy foreheads and size 00 clones becoming the norm, we often forget that women come in all shapes, sizes and colors. In the film “Precious" recently, the movie based on the book,"Push" by Sapphire, it was exciting to see this character that was literally larger than life on the screen. When I visit museums and see oil paintings of very fair "fleshy" gals and rosy cheeks it makes me wonder how their is a "norm" in the beauty world. The Twiggy’s to the Kim Kardashian's we begin to wonder where we fit in especially with all of the scrunity that is placed on women from day one at birth (does the baby have hair?) to becoming a teenager (when is she going to get boobs?) and then there is the time where an expiration date is placed upon them. It was refreshing to attend the 2010-2011 launch of Toula and be able to see clothing made for women sizes 14-24.
The Fall 2011 Line will be debuting at Saks featuring women’s wear that is timeless knitwear since 1986; rich fabrics and high-fashion; statement-making pieces. Great for going from the boardroom to the busy-gal’s night out: charity events, dinner with friends, a first date, you name it. Be sure to stop by Saks to see the line in person.

OFF-OFF BROADWAY AWARDS, TINSLEY MORTIMER LAUNCH AT SAMANTHA THAVASA AND THE HOLIDAY COLLECTION FOR THE LIMITED
With the humidity in high gear last week, you might have thought that I would be at the beach or in a swimming pool somewhere, but no, I was determined to cover these events in order to bring these recaps to you dearest readers!
On Monday, July 19th, a huge line of colorful characters wrapped around Carmine Street in the West Village. Guests put on their best game face as they waited patiently to attend the OFF-OFF Broadway Nominee Announcement Party.
Once inside, it was much cooler and comfortable. With categories: Outstanding Ensemble, Outstanding Solo Performance, Outstanding Actor/Actress and many more.
Festivities took place at The Carmine Recreation Center (a space that one might argue rivals Brooklyn’s Messiah).
The following evening, Tinsley Moritmer debuted her designs at Samantha Thavasa for Fall 2010. With looks, such as leather corsets with influences: White Snake, Guns and Roses, Madonna and Def Leppard. Her clutches and handbags were also a big hit.
For the hard-working, hard-living gals like yours truly, the Limited Holiday Launch had everything Santa’s little helper could ask for: sequence dresses, sharp blazers, chic trousers and many more looks for even the fussiest fashionista.
That is all for now on the NY@NITE front, take it easy and enjoy your summer!
Haiti Benefit at Judith Leiber and ReachNYC.org Benefit
Haiti Benefit at Judith Leiber and ReachNYC.org Benefit
The hot and lazy days of summer are upon us! This is one of the most scorching season’s we’ve ever had!
I was able to beat-the-heat with some local charity events around town.
Last week, legendary handbag-to-the stars designer, Judith Leiber hosted a benefit for Haiti. Many celebrities were in attendance including: Maria Bello (Coyote Ugly and Maxim Magazine fame), Kelly Rutherford from the OC and Gossip Girl as well as Former Fugee’s artist: Wyclef Jean’s brother on the turntables spinning some of the best music for this swanky, stylish crowd. Towards the end of the evening, someone whispered that Police Commissioner, Ray Kelly was in the crowd. He was very kind and polite when I had asked him if it would be alright to take his picture, he said, “My son will take OUR picture.” Later, in the evening, when I got home, I turned on NY1 and Ray Kelly must have high-tailed over to the studio for an interview for “The Call” a nightly program on NY1 highlighting some of the city’s most talked about subjects.
Later in the week, the spacious and tranquil, Spa Chakra on Fifth Avenue hosted a rooftop event for ReachNYC.org.
REACHNYC is an innovative, large-scale “incentive scholarship” program successfully breaking he achievement gap for thousands of low-income and minority students from some of NYC’s poorest neighborhoods.
REACH is open to every student who signs up for any of 15 Advanced Placement subjects including: Physics, Biology, Calculus, Chemistry, Microeconomics, U.S. Government, U.S./World/European History, English Literature, Statistics and Environmental Science. THE WEEK OF LIVING FABULOUSLY!
THE WEEK OF LIVING FABULOUSLY!
I would like to start off by congratulating the entire cast and crew of “The Bold and The Beautiful” on their wins at last night’s Emmy Awards; especially in the “Best Writing Category” as well as “Best Daytime Drama!” This is what I have been telling friends, family, loved ones—basically anyone who wants to listen! The B and B is such a wonderful show; the most intriguing storylines, great set-design, acting. I could go on forever! I secretly watch it because it reminds me very much of California since the show is set in Los Angeles—in short, “Way to go!” Be sure and check out: http://www.cbs.com/daytime/bb to watch the 20 minute daily episodes!
This past week was filled with glorious rooftop parties and over-the-top charity events at some of New York’s most prestigious Hotels; beginning at the Waldorf-Astoria, followed by sipping top-shelf champagne at a famous fashion designer’s penthouse in the meat-packing district and then ending at the VIP sunglass rooftop party in midtown yesterday afternoon.
On June 21st, the former chairman and CEO of Fortune 500 company, Xerox, Anne M. Mulchany was honored at the 27th Annual Tribute Dinner at the Waldorf-Astoria .
NBC’s Today Show’s, Matt Lauer was the evening’s host and world renowned rheumatologist, Stephen A. Paget, M.D., received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Nearly 1,000 guests were in attendance and more then $2 million was raised to benefit the Hospital for Special Surgery! Be sure and visit: http://www.hss.edu for specifics.
On Tuesday, June 22nd, The Urban Tech Gala was held at the Mandarin Oriental (a personal favorite, of yours truly) with special guest, Patti LaBelle.
Special guests included: CBS News Anchor, Maurice Dubois along with B.Smith serving as the master of ceremonies. The event was a tribute to Ambassador Carl Spielvogel for a lifetime of public service.
Urban Tech, founded in 1995, connects students and families in under-served communities to digital literacy, comprehensive health education and life skills critical to academic career and financial success.
The following evening, I received a text from a friend attending the Vogue Magazine Party at Famous Fashion Designer, Carlos Miele’s townhouse just around the corner from Phillips and the Hotel Gansevoort. It was a star-studded bash complete with many of the sexy models from the Victoria Secret catalogs; they were just as beautiful in person, I might add. It was one of the best parties, I have been to all summer—so far and the sprawling space was simply incredible!
On Friday night, The Top of the Garden located at 251 West 30th was the place to be. This rooftop party was situated just a few blocks from Madison Square Garden and it was a very festive evening indeed.
Yesterday, I attended the VIP Carrera Summer Escape located at 505 West 37th Street, also on the rooftop in the middle of midtown Manhattan; atop a luxury high-rise.
Townhouse spa treated guests to complimentary massages and manicures. While guests sunbathed, hunky cabana boys served up fresh fruit smoothies and offered to help with applying sunscreen to the backs of attendees in order to avoid getting a sunburn; that is what I call “service with a smile..”
When I arrived just as the yoga class was wrapping up, but it was a very hot and steamy summer afternoon; no doubt about it…
Maybe, just maybe, New York is just as “Bold and Beautiful” as Los Angeles.
Thanks for your support dear readers! Have a great day! Stay cool..
My Karaoke Birthday, Shecky's and More!
My Karaoke Birthday, Shecky's and More!
My Karaoke Birthday, Shecky’s Girls Night Out and Rootstein Noveau Hommes Launch
My Birthday recently passed and I celebrated by having a group of about 15 friends join me at Pulse Karaoke in Times Square. We had a private room and everyone was a star that night! One of my favorite songs performed was, “Beast of Burden,” by the Rolling Stones and Fergie’s, “Glamorous Life.” Since we only had two hours in the VIP area, we moved the party out to the main area and met up with a group of friendly, new faces for the remainder of the evening.
Some other events worth mentioning: The Forever 21 Fashion Show on the Frying Pan and also the Yelp party out on Randall’s Island. Believe it or not, I went to both parties on the same night! The Forever 21 party was super-crowded, but being outdoors with the summer breeze off the Hudson made it worthwhile.
In Harlem, (not far from my first apartment in New York) guests were shuttle-bused over to Randall’s Island for miniature golf, batting cages as well as tasty food and drink from local vendor sponsors.
Last week, the Rootstein Mannequin Warehouse hosted an over-the-top fabulous launch, “The Noveau Hommes,” with a room filled with New York’s most popular nightlife fixtures. This reminded me very much of the shindigs that took place at Patricia Field’s just a few years back; all of the over-the-topness and guests dressed to the nines!
One of the most mobbed parties ever must be the infamous, “Shecky’s Girls Night Out!” I keep wondering when they will just book Madison Square Garden and call it a day.
These shopping events are a lot of fun complete with several open bars and beauty treatments, but it is difficult to maneuver around because of the frenzy; oh yes, and the goodie bag is always very sought-after.
Stay tuned, I will try and update my “NewYork@Nite” column on a more regular basis. Thanks for taking the time to be a regular reader!
Summer, Summer, Summertime!
Summer, Summer, Summertime!
Ah yes, summer is here! The warm weather and good vibes are reminiscent of my California days!
Having childhood friends from Burbank visit lately has been an added treat! One of them performed over the Memorial Day weekend Holiday at the legendary Carnegie Hall with the New England Symphonic Ensemble for the 26th Anniversary Season. Afterwards, she scored me a ticket on Spirit Cruises, complete with dinner, dancing, drinks and oh yes, debauchery! Getting home just before dawn took me back to those wild junior high school days all over again…
Going to the beach two days in a row over Memorial Day was also complete blast!
There were tons of people that shared the same idea as me after the icy, depressing winter. I made friends with a poodle named Cherry at Coney Island on Sunday, (I still need to ride the Cyclone and visit the recently revamped Luna Park). One of my favorite pastimes, I might add!
Monday, the Rockways was less crowded, but in the water, layers of seaweed surrounded me from head to toe (who needs a pricey day spa algae wraps, anyways?).
On the Party Posse’ front, I attended the Tenement Museum benefit at Capitale and last night, “The Royal Pains” launch at the Lacoste Store in Midtown.
Today, between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. if you bring a gently worn t-shirt to Greeley Square, you too can walk away with a $50 gift card for Lacoste as well.
Hope everyone has a great day! It’s time to break out swimsuits and enjoy life!
King Tut, ICFF and Facebook
King Tut, ICFF and Facebook
“Egypt! Egypt! Egypt, is the place to be, Egypt!” Remember that song?
I have personally experienced the Nile River, the shops in the town bazaar of Cairo and seen the pyramids with my own eyes, many years ago. Next time, I will be sure and visit Alexandria, another mystical place on the globe, not too far away.
Back in LA, one of the museums hosted an exhibition that my Grandmother had taken me to, as a child. Now, most recently, I met up with a group of event planners for the Times Square showings of King Tut’s rare artifacts.
The detail and craftsmanship was simply amazing. A personal favorite must have been the falcon-head necklace worn by one of the queen’s during this era.
(Falcon’s were thought to have helped transport the dead through the paths of the underworld and over to a new life, just in case you were wondering).
I can’t help wondering how the jewelry made in this day and age will stand-up in the future, after seeing this; learning about the entire mummification process was also quite astounding, (I’ll spare you the gruesome undertaking.)
Please be sure and visit this limited engagement. It’s educational, beautiful as well as intricate and in Times Square of all places!!!
This week is also ICFF! Last night was the kick-off for the extravaganza!
Soho was mobbed full of people, although, one furniture store was not too crowded and the mushroom risotto was extremely tasty! (Yum).
What did we do before Facebook? Sure, there’s still myspace, (never got into Friendster or Petster), but it is always a kick to hear from individuals from my childhood. Last week, one of them was in town and we got together for lunch.
I was asked the following question, “Why are New Yorkers flakier than Californians?”
I’m still trying to figure out how to answer that one!
Have a great week everyone!

Tokidoki Launch for Sephora
Tokidoki , the playful line inspired by the work of celebrated Italian artist, Simone Legno has taken on a new life in the form of a cosmetics brand featured exclusively at Sephora! Pop pigment shades for the eyes, lips and cheeks as well as professional tools and accessories.
Every aspect of the line brings together art, color and performance. At the launch party at Arena, this nightclub looked more like a scene out of "Dogtown meets "Whip-It" with tough, but friendly female skateboarders along with cheeky servers offering up a variety of colorful snacks.
For more information visit your local Sephora store for the Tokidoki line.

The Latest Events in NY
One of my favorite organizations: The Humane Society, offers affordable veterinarian services and also donates an enormous amount of time, energy and money towards overall animal welfare.
Last week, Diane Von Furstenberg transformed her chic store in the Meatpacking District into an art gallery rivaling Phillips and Sotheby’s!
Avant Garde and some of the hippest photography graced the walls of this famous address. One of my personal favorites was of the late Alexander McQueen and a model kneeling over showing off the A McQ logo on the bottom of her boots; mind you, I am not one for blatant advertising, but in the case, I did have to make an exception!
Most of the credit goes out to Michael McGraw, the spokesperson for Peta. He effortlessly pulled off such fabulous event! Linda Wells, the Editor-In-Chief from Allure Magazine, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Adrian Brody and many other famous faces graced DVF on this glorious evening.
Afterwards, it was over to Bowlmor Lanes for the Annual Literacy Associates Benefit.
Located on the top floor of Bowlmor, the Carnival (straight out of Coney Island) was filled with all sorts of characters: a woman on stilts, the water pistol game (I am sucker for that one) and lots of other colorful games and attractions were taking place. Please visit: http://www.LiteracyPartners.org for more information.
For the past year, I have mentioned all of the wonderful events at Cipriani and now it seems as if there might be some competition as to where to host an event that is glamorous and unforgettable. This time around it seems that Guastavino’s is the place to be.
I’ve only been to Guastavino’s one other time and it was for the after-party for Baby Phat a couple of years ago. Kimora Lee’s famous ex-husband, Russell Simmons, hosted the JBFCS Spring Benefit and it was a huge success as well as festive evening.
Another sprawling, amazing space has to be the Tribeca Rooftop. Mayor Michael Bloomberg and special guest, Paula Zahn were the highlight of the “National Center for Learning Disabilities.” The evening presented $10,000 scholarships to two lucky high school seniors.

The Chelsea Hotel and Spa In Atlantic City
The Chelsea Hotel and Spa In Atlantic City
Last year, when I visited the Chelsea Hotel it was still under construction. I have anxiously awaited for the spa to open and to be able to share with my readers what they have been missing.
With the warm weather upon us, sometimes a stroll through the streets of New York might not be enough to soothe our souls from the hectic pace of Big Apple Living. Just two hours away (via the Chinatown Bus), The Chelsea in Atlantic City is the perfect mini-retreat. Even when I arrived during a severe thunder storm, I thoroughly enjoyed the posh Penthouse Suite complete with a magnificent view of the Atlantic Ocean, two flat-screen televisions and two fireplaces. Lather products graced the marble-countertops in the bathroom. On my last day, I realized the suite also provided lush, terry cloth robes too. Be sure and visit the salt water pool and Spa along with The Fifth Floor for drinks and ample amount of your favorite board games. There are two wonderful restaurants on the premises too: The Chelsea Prime and Teplitzky’s. Beach Cabana’s and towels are also available with reservations The Chelsea is located at 41 South Chelsea Ave in Atlantic City. Please visit: http://www.thechelsea-ac.com or call 800.548.3030.

ACO Gala Concert and Benefit
The Central Park Boathouse is one of my favorite spots in New York City. Some of the best views of Central Park can be seen from the floor-to-ceiling windows inside and the Gondola ride is always a treat.
The Thomas Crawford and The Board of the American Classical Orchestra hosted the ACO’s Gala Concert and Benefit on March 24th. This black-tie event was a huge success.
The American Classical Orchestra is a 501 non-profit organization.
Greenwich House Pottery, “Made in Clay” Annual Benefit:
Crafts, Jazz and Celebration
On March 18th, Greenwich House Pottery hosted a fund-raiser complete with a live jazz band, the Bed Campbell Trio at the Made in Clay event.
The program raises awareness and funds: everything from youth-directed and senior citizen initiatives to scholarships for students.
Ceramic bowls, jewelry, vases can be found at great prices created by the students at Greenwich House.

Best Charity Events In NYC
Best Charity Events In NYC
Our beloved Mayor, Mike Bloomberg is having difficulty deciding where he should donate approximately eight million dollars of his hard-earned cash. My first suggestion would be the "cash-strapped" MTA, however, since that choice isn't on the list, I decided to include some of the most recent charity events that I've attended and hopefully, Mr. Bloomberg might assist with the fund-raising of these wonderful organizations (in no particular order):
-The Fallen Heroes Fund
I was fortunate enough to attend the Charity Poker Tournament at the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum on January 27, 2010.

Fashion Week a Bryant Park, The Altman Building and More!
Fashion Week a Bryant Park, The Altman Building and More!
Bryant Park was the main space for most of the Mercedes Benz fashion week shows. However, I did not venture over to 42nd and Sixth Avenue for several days.
On Friday, February 12th, the Alexander Berardi show and Mik Cire show were the first two that I attended.
In between shows, I wandered around to some of the sponsored booths including: Tres Somme, Maybelline and the most favorite, the bar area. The drink of choice was the French Martini made with Chambord, Finlandia Vodka on ice with a touch of pineapple juice and topped off with a lime.
There is always one big name show that I manage to somehow see. The last two seasons it was Carolina Herrera and this time it was Diane Von Furstenberg.
The next day the cover of the New York Post asked readers if Coca Rocca was fat because she was an unbelievable size four! How could DVF feature an almost plus sized model to wear her clothes being a hefty size four? Gotta love the fashion world!
One night was spent running all over downtown at the Manuel De la Cruz show at the Altman Building, where I was given some very nice seat assignments! A fellow friend was also responsible for casting the models at this show and they were all very edgy as well as cool.
Fashion Week would not be complete without attending the Green Shows in the East Village. Each piece was made of recycled materials including a fabulous dress made from the pink pages of the New York Observer!
Carlos Campos held a presentation in midtown and there was a nice turnout there for sure.
The Nima Fall/Winter Collection was held at Ceco Studios, a wonderful space for a presentation!
Ampersand was just next door and the models were on a conveyer-like belt showing off some really chic pieces.
The Monique Lhuiller collection was simply beautiful and inspired by Chinese Warrior and Military Suits.
Lastly, Loris Diran presented at the Bowery Hotel. Simon and Alex from “The Real Housewives of New York” were also in attendance—again. Go figure.
Be sure to check back in September for the Spring 2011 shows from Lincoln Center. Goodbye Bryant Park! Ciao Baby. Thanks for the memories!
Fashion Week At Milk
Fashion Week At Milk
The first official day of Fashion Week: Wednesday, February 10th, the area was hit was a violent snowstorm. Most businesses shut down near lunchtime, yet I was determined to make it from lower Manhattan up to midtown for the Adrienne Landau show at 519 Eighth Avenue a 36th Street.
As I ventured uptown, found the location and then walked up to the elevator, the doorman notified me that the show was, gasp---CANCELLED! Oh no.
I decided to just go home and start my fashion week coverage the next day.
On Thursday, February 11th, the MCG line by Alexander McQueen was going to take place at 3:00 p.m. at Milk Studios; sadly, the unfortunate news of his untimely death left everyone around the world in complete shock over the loss of this talented individual.
As the spirits of guests and staff eventually lifted, many gathered in the Surf Lodge located on the Penthouse level (a.k.a. the 8th floor) of Milk Studios. Fish tacos and top shelf cocktails were on the menu, complete with live music along with arts and crafts.
The Tim Hamilton and Jeremy Laing collections were also featured on the 8th floor.
On Chinese New Year/Valentine’s Day, I was fortunate enough to get a front row seat at the Juan Carlos Obando show. Ironically enough, I noticed some of the models were crying and had mascara running down the sides of their cheeks (I guess I wasn’t the only one starting off my day feeling somber, however, the night did end on a good note).
Another collection, the Temperely London fall collection was a nice Brit-friendly line was he held at Milk. I was lucky enough to get standing room for edgy designers, Threeasfour, which was one of the most bizarre, yet entertaining shows that I was able to see.
Milk Studios will more than likely be bigger and better for the Spring 2011 shows, I am certain of. Be sure to check back for more reviews on events at Milk, here on NY@NITE.
Pre-Fashion Week Fall 2010
Pre-Fashion Week Fall 2010
Fashion Week is always a highly anticipated event that has many New Yorkers look forward to twice a year: The Fall and Spring Shows. For several years now they have been held at Bryant Park and next season they will relocate over to Lincoln Center; with the exception of the off-site shows: at Milk Studios, Exit Art and many other nifty locations.
Pre-Fashion week, (sometimes even a day or two before it officially begins) there’s always a presentation or show that members of the press and various celebrities are certain to be found at.
Personally, I began my writing career over ten years ago, and my “NY@NITE” column originated on Coolgrrrls.com (thank you, Annmari) and there were only four correspondents, then it grew literally to all corners of the globe.
Then I branched out to writing for a downtown music paper called, The NY Waste and then back online for the “NY Confidential” column for NYRock.com.
For some reason, Fashion writing seems to be sometimes a challenge for me! However, I am extremely grateful when I do receive an invitation in the mail or even an email requesting my presence to cover the designer’s latest collection; lastly, tagging along with friends is always a guaranteed good time as well!
My first fashion week adventure began at the Lincs Collection for Men in the Flatiron area of NYC.
The presentation featured neatly coiffed guys lounging about in eye-catching shades of “rugged heather gray,” hunter green and the return of the chunky sweater.
Tasty cocktails were served complete with recipes on tip sheet! Allow me to share with you all, dear readers:
CLUB MAR-TEA-NI
¼ cup (2 oz.) SALONTEA Fashionable Dandy
¼ cup (2 oz.) Hennessy X.O cognac
Ice
Colored Sugar
The LINCS TEA
¾ (6 oz.) SALONTEA Musician
¼ (2 oz.) Vodka.
Sugar to taste
Shake the vodka and tea together in a cocktail shaker with ice and serve with a garnish of choice.
Cocktails created by Tracy Stern of SALONTEA.
As I was leaving, Simon and Alex, stars of the “Real Housewives of New York City” were arriving.
The same week, Cipriani midtown hosted a lingerie competition. There were also many in the "fashion-know" in attendance.
Stay tuned for more on the Fashion Week front!
Women's Day Red Dress Awards
Women's Day Red Dress Awards
The Seventh Annual Woman's Day Red Dress Awards were held at the Allen Room in Frederick P. Rose Hall, Home of Jazz at Lincoln Center; not even a blizzard could keep the stars and guests away for this important benefit.
Kicking off Fashion Week, Fall 2010 and "Single Awareness Day" (that's what my neighbor calls Valentine's Day, just in case you were wondering).. The Woman's Day Red Dress Awards celebrated and raised money to fund women's heart issues; one of the leading illnesses among women from all backgrounds.
Sherri Shepherd from "The View" hosted this memorable event with lots of wit, style and grace.
Carlos Lamarid, Senior Vice President, Chief Brand Officer, Women's Day Brand Group as well as Elizabeth Mayhew, Vice President, Brand Content, Editor-In-Chief, Woman's Day Brand Group presented the event to benefit the Larry King Cardiac Foundation.
Project Runway's, Tim Gunn was also one of the respected speakers.
Beth Stern (yes, Howard Stern's wife) presented the musical performances. The audience was especially "wowed" by Mary J. Blige's closing with "No More Drama" a fitting song in these days and times!

RACE on Broadway
RACE on Broadway
RACE ON BROADWAY: STARRING: James Spader, David Alan Grier, Kerry Washington and Richard Thomas star in this dynamic performance. Written and Directed by David Mamet.
What most intrigued me about this cast was how initially diverse the four of them are.
You’ve got the snotty, preppy kid from “Less Than Zero,” the wacky, zany “In Living Color” comedian, “John Boy from The Walton’s” and the model-type looks from a Queen in “The Last King of Scotland.”
Needless to say, I was anxious to see how this would all pan out on stage.
Race is filled with those, “I can’t believe they just said that moments!” James Spader plays his best snaky-I don’t give care about anyone, but myself character with ease and brilliance. One line that resonated with me was about how, now is 2010 “we” still can’t get past the fact that someone is black, white, green, whatever.
It is a thought provoking performance and says aloud what many individuals question silently.
David Alan Grier does great in this serious role as the partner in a law firm. His matter-of-fact way, caught me off guard! He makes a great lawyer!
Kerry Washington and Richard Thomas keep the audience guessing throughout the show. You'll never look at red sequin dress the same way ever again!

Race now showing at The Ethel Barrymore Theatre at 243 West 47th Street, NY, NY 10036

The Israel Film Festival
The Israel Film Festival
The Israfest Foundation hosted an opening reception at the SVA Theatres on 23rd Street earlier this month with special appearances by some of Hollywood's most respected actors, directors as well as film makers. Just before the screening of "A Matter of Size" (a cute film about a group of overweight, blue collar men deciding to try Sumo Wrestling). Just prior to the movie, Elliott Gould was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Acclaimed Writer/Director Paul Shrader was present along with Donald Krim, the President and Founder.
I noticed Jeff Goldblum was causing quite a stir with the press and also had to squeeze in for my photo op moment. For more information, please visit: http://www.israelfilmfestival.com

Harrahs and Showboat in AC
This year has been a complete whirlwind; a wild rollercoaster type of ride. When I am not going out in New York, I am usually in California or Atlantic City. Recently, AC was my destination staying at both Harrah's and The Showboat. The Showboat has a New Orlean's type of vibe complete with a spa called Vive, to help ease travel woes of tourists and celebs alike. The Foundation Room and Club Worship are hot spots worth checking out. For more information visit: http://www.showboatac.com

Dolphin Watching In Atlantic City
Dolphin Watching In Atlantic City
Atlantic City has been one of my favorite getaway destinations for over a year now.
Besides gambling, this quaint town offers up a variety of entertainment including shows, (check back for a full review later on Yesterday) movies and dolphin-watching! Yes, Dolphin-Watching in Atlantic City.
The two hour dolphin watching tour guarantees it's guests that they will get to witness with their own eyes real dolphins frolicking about.
When I boarded the Atlantic City Cruises, I personally saw about twenty of them swimming about. The tour guide even mentioned the dangers of feeding them as many fisherman had once done making it harder for these beautiful creatures to find food on their own once they are left to fend for themselves.
To see for yourself, call 609.347.7600 or visit http://www.atlanticcitycruises.com. Adults are $34.00; seniors are $29 and kids are $18.
Discount coupons can be found on the Atlantic City Cruises website. Enjoy! I'm sure you will find this a truly memorable and exciting adventure and good for all ages!
Alcohol, Cigarettes and Caffeine: Can Only Mean One Thing..
Alcohol, Cigarettes and Caffeine: Can Only Mean One Thing..
As I type my farewell to Fashion Week piece here at Bryant Park in the Maybelline Booth, bittersweet emotions begin to take over. Part of me is relieved and the other is sad. Really sad. Really.
I love New York and the everyday life here, but Fashion Week is so kooky and krazy. It is a breath of fresh air from the daily grind. All of the going out and running around from the tents to the Altman Building, to Met Pavillion and my favorite, Astor Cuts--the men's old skool barber shop in the East Village is simple awesome.
Honestly, I'm not exactly sure where to begin.
Fashion Week started on Monday or was Tuesday last week. Gotta love it when the designers and creative artists kick-start the insanity early.
Fresh off a mini-vacation: one day in Atlantic City hanging out on the beach and the next day in Montauk, I knew I needed to brace myself for all of the festivities awaiting me. I sent out about 100 emails to various pr firms and did get some positive feedback requesting my presence at their shows.
So let the games begin..This will be a random mish-mosh of my personal experience is the wacky, wild world of the previews of Spring 2010..Ladies and Gentlemen, hold on to your seats and start your engines..You might wanna grab a French Martini in process: Part vodka, part Chambord, a dash of pineapple juice and lotsa ice..ENJOY!
Die And Go to Heaven At The Water Club!
Die And Go to Heaven At The Water Club!
The Water Club in Atlantic City, NJ will transport you from Planet Earth to Heaven from the moment you walk through the doors.
Just a short pathway through the Borgata Casino and swanky shops including: La Perla, Roberto Cavalli, to name a few.
The lobby of The Water Club is serene and sophisticated. The staff warm and inviting, yet professional.
The rooms boast some the most breath-taking views of the marina. The sheets are made of the finest Egyptian cotton and make you want to stay in bed and sleep forever.
Lather products grace the counter-tops of the marble baths, my personal favorite is the exfoiliating soap.
Even the art work in the commode area is a feast for the eyes.
Downstairs in the pool area, you will find both an indoor and outdoor pool. You might even find an orchid waiting for you on your fluffy towel after a quick dip in the pool.
The Sunroom offers guests a relaxing, yet stylish way to unwind before a wild night out on the town.
Inside the Borgata, we dined at Old Hempstead. For an appetizer we shared the King Crab and shared the Chilean Sea Bass for our main entree' and washed it down with couple of glasses of chardonnay.
Club Murmur is the place to be on Monday nights. The staff at the surrounding casinos is invited to lose their worries on the dance floor. Guests of Borgata and the Water Club can flash their room key for complimentary admission and VIP Service.
This was the time of my life. I did not want to leave and go back to my daily routine.
If you too wish to be transported to a special place in the galaxy (even just for a day or two) then visit The Borgata and Water Club, you will be glad you did.
The Water Club is 43 stories, has 800 rooms, a spa on the 32nd floor, was designed by Bower Lewis Thrower/Cope Linder Associates. Interior designed by Laurence Lee and Associates. $400 million dollars well spent!

The Gordon Parks Foundation Gala at Gotham Hall
The Gordon Parks Foundation Gala at Gotham Hall
On June 2, 2009 at Gotham Hall, The Gordon Parks Foundation hosted a benefit auction and photographs celebrating fashion. During the cocktail hour, I noticed Grace Coddington from Vogue, (I still remember her from the days I temped there for Candy Pratts-Price in the accessories department, so it was a real kick to see her again in person). Russell Simmons was also there being interviewed.
The Gordon Parks Foundation was established in 2007 to preserve the work of Gordon Parks and make it available to the public. The foundation supports individuals who have contributed their lives to the arts. The proceeds from the auction were used to permanently preserve Gordon's work and make it available to schools, museums and communities around the world. Model as Muse Exhibition at the Met
Model as Muse Exhibition at the Met
Before my Mom arrived in New York, she had one request and that was to visit the Met and check out the "Model as Muse" exhibit which features the key-players in the high-fashion world of modeling from 1947 to 1997. Peggy Moffitt, Twiggy, Cheryl Tiegs, Iman, Jerry Hall, Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell, Amber Valetta...I could go on forever! Even Brooke Shields and her Calvins. I don't want to give away too much and spoil it for everyone, but I've been shamlessly wearing the t-shirt created by Marc Jacobs every chance I get. Maybe one day I will break down and wash it! Literacy Associates Benefit and Under the Sea Gala
Literacy Associates Benefit and Under the Sea Gala
Last week I celebrated my Birthday by attending a few charitable events: The Literacy Associates Benefit and the Under the Sea Gala.
The Literacy Associates Benefit was held at Tenjune and their mission is to provide free, community based adult and family literacy programs. Ensuring that adult learners have access the quality education needed to fully realize their potential as individuals, parents and citizens. Literacy Partners, Inc. 30 East33rd Street, 6th Floor, NY, NY 10016, 212.725.9200. www.literacypartners.org Did I mention I won an autographed copy of the recent Lee Childs book in the raffle? NICE.
The Under the Sea Gala at Pier Sixty was the best way to celebrate my actual birthday with my Mom. This benefited the CancerCare for Kids with host, Tim Gunn, from Project Runway. Many glorious items were auctioned off for this worthwhile cause. It hit home especially because a friend of the family's daughter has battled Cancer and has won the fight. Yea. Victorian Gardens At Wollman Rink In Central Park
Victorian Gardens At Wollman Rink In Central Park
Sure, I am a kid at heart. I love Coney Island, riding the Cyclone, Six Flags Great Adventure, you name it!
I was pleasantly surprised to attend a private party at Wollman Rink in Central Park for the Victorian Gardens Theme Park.
It was a catered event with some of the most delicious food ever. Party-goers indulged in Mai Tai's as they went on the wild rides: the swing, the train and water race! I ended up with my purse filled with stuffed animals before the night was through!

Turkish Fashion Show at the Broad Ballroom
Turkish Fashion Show at the Broad Ballroom
One of the best things about living in New York must be the culture. It is truly the melting pot of the world. I've been to Olympus and Mercedes Fashion Week many, many times, however, I had yet to discover, a Turkish Fashion show held at the Broad Street Ballroom. During Fashion Week, I had attended another party there, so I was super-excited to see how this was going to unfold. Guests were treated to Turkish delicialies and a lively crowd. One of the models reminded me a little bit of my sister, Holly even. Most of the clothes were high-fashion in a Turkish kind of way..

Southampton Getaway
Southampton Getaway
I must start off by thanking the ladies at Hampton Angels for the complimentary stay at the Enclave Inn (Bed and Breakfast) in Southampton.
A former colleague and friend of mine from San Francisco is considering relocating to the Big Apple and I figured it would be a blast to take her to see The Hampton's and experience a couple of days in this lush playground.
A Zip Car was a must. My friend decided on the Mini-Cooper to get us around town.
After cocktails near the beach, we went bowling in East Hampton and then to Cyril's in Montauk before heading back to the city.
Momix at The Joyce Theater
Momix at The Joyce Theater
Memorial Weekend started off with a colorful, dreamy dance performance at The Joyce Theater in Chelsea.
Momix dazzled the audience with fluid movements and creative backdrops with everything from a simple rose, to a forest while the dancers drew in the crowd with sexy, playful and at times strange performances. Every element of the show was filled with the element of mystery. Momix was a little bit of illusion, a touch of fantasy and overall the perfect distration from the worries of everyday life. This performance is recommended for all ages.

The Bidawee Gala
The Bidawee Gala
The Bidawee Gala at the Tavern on The Green was indeed a star-studded event.
Dr. Ruth Westheimer was walking around and it was a nice surprise spotting her during the cocktail party checking out the silent auction.
Just a few feet away, I noticed a camera crew and interviews taking place. Supermodel, Paulina Porisokva was speaking into the camera and smiling.
Broadway favorite, Bernadette Peters was one of the big honorees along with her Bidawee adopted dog, Kramer.
Dogs, dogs everywhere graced the Tavern on Green at this pet-friendly gala.

The Tribeca Film Festival
The Tribeca Film Festival
Several years ago I was part of a freelance gig promoting the Tribeca Film Festival, yet I never actually attending any of screenings, however, this year, I received a text message from a friend at the Babelgum Tribeca Shorts Filmmaker Party urging me to drop everything and head down to the 92Y for Spike Lee's award presentation followed by a screening of the evenings winners.
Another event downtown I enjoyed very much was for Healthcorps sponsored by Dr. Oz, the famous Beverly Hills, plastic surgeon. The Healthcorp gala was held in the World Financial Center near, the World Trade Center site. Guests at the gala learned about the Healthcorp mission, which is to promote healthy eating and habits to children in public schools. I personally learned quite a bit about relaxing, breathing and the importance of a good night of sleep, of course, this I already knew, but needed a reminder.
In closing, stayed tuned for more excitement in the big, rainy apple!Enter Text Here

Spring Charity Events
Spring Charity Events
Everywhere you look there are reminders about how our economy is in a crisis and our nation is cash-poor while we scratch our heads asking, "How did this happen?" There are many factors and reasons why and we may never know. Our friends, neighbors and colleagues are carefully cutting back on spending and those in need the most are often the ones hit hardest, including some of the local charities.
Last week, I ended three charity events worthy of mentioning and supporting: Shared Interest, The Northside Center for Child Development and Dress for Success.
The Shared Interest Gala was held at the legendary, Tavern on the Green in Central Park.
Tavern on the Green, is one of New York's most prestigious and over-the-top restaurants, a favorite for locals and tourists alike.
Walls of mirrors, Edward Scissorhand-like animal shrubbery sculptures welcome guests as they enter one the glorious ballrooms.
I was very impressed with the PR Team heading the Shared Interest event. They treated members of the press graciously and even offered a table at dinner to show their appreciation for the hard work each editor contributes to bringing attention to their wonderful cause; which is rare--especially in New York, where often times we are simply invited to attend the cocktail hour than to disappear quickly and quietly just before the heavy-hitting, big donors are seated to enjoy the rest of the evening.
Since we were welcomed to dinner, I was able to learn much more about the Shared Interest Organization.
Shared Interest invests in the South African future helping out disadvantaged women and children alike.
During 2007, Shared Interest and its South African partner, Thembani passed the million-beneficiary mark-and continued to grow.
Since 2004, the beginning of South Africa's second decade of democracy, they have helped more than 442,000 low-income entrepreneurs to start or expand small businesses and have reached a total of 1,164,000. Seventy-four percent of the beneficiaries are women.
For more information visit: www.sharedinterest.org.
The Art Benefit in support of the Northside Center for Child Development
Northside was founded in 1946 by pioneering psychologists Dr. Kenneth Clark and Mamie Phipps Clark whose groundbreaking research exposed the harmful effects of racial segregation on the intellectual and emotional growth of children and eventually served as testimony in the landmark Supreme Court decision (Brown vs Board of Education) to end legalized segregation in public schools.
For more information visit: www.northsidecenter.org
Last, but definitely not least, The "Dress for Success" Gala at the Grand Hyatt was a star-studded event with hosts and supporters, Tommy Hilfiger, makeup artist, Bobbie Brown and Iman.
Dress for Success is a saving grace for disadvantaged women. The organization helps individuals regain their self-esteem by offering clothing for the work-force, counseling as well as job interviewing skills to allow them to become independent and confident again. Since starting operations in 1997, Dress for Success has expanded to more than 85 cities in the U.S., Canada, New Zealand, the Netherlands and the UK. To date, Dress for Success has helped more than 400,000 women work towards self-sufficiency.
Visit: www.dressforsuccess.org to learn more.
As my Grandmother always told me, Charity begins at home. Feel free to visit these organization and make a donation and/or to volunteer to these worthwhile causes.

Fashion Week Recap for Fall 2009
Fashion Week Recap for Fall 2009
Every Fashion Week Experience has been different an exciting experience for me; however, it always becomes a blur with so many shows, clothes, parties, people and places.
Some of my favorite and most memorable collections include:
Abaete' and Carlos Campos at the Altman, Carolina Herrera and Charlotte Ronson at the tents and Form by Jerry Tam at the Tribeca Grand.
The Abate' show was probably one of the best. All of the models wore faux-hawks, a nice look "borrowed" from the boys. The booties in a variety of colors were very fashion-forward and adorable too. They will be available at Payless this fall as well.
Carlos Campos' Fall Collection was sleek with the very polished suits flattering almost any body.
The Carolina Herrera show was very unexpected. My friend and yours truly walked in just before the doors were closed. Carolina Herrera 's clothing is always super-glamorous; classy and elegant with rich jewel tones.
Jerry Tam for Form brought back basic black with quality detailing.
Fashion Week for Fall 2009 was yet another great time to be in the Big Apple!

Thursday night is once again the "New Friday." I met up with David at the Edison Ballroom for the cocktail party hosted by The James Beard Foundation: Dumplings and Dynasties.
We were welcomed to the cocktail party and enjoyed the festive decor along with some dumplings and good conversation.
The Edison Ballroom truly seems to be THE in spot right now.
Afterwards, we had several choices to either go Uptown or to Chelsea for the Aspen Anniversary Party.
Aspen is the perfect restaurant to dine at on a chilly winter night. The ski-lodge feel complete with charming fireplaces and a fashion-forward crowd is a definite must-do during the holidays.
Housing Works also hosted a fancy affair with many recognized designers including Marc Jacobs and Doo-ri.
The evening ended on a fabulous note.
We were treated like royalty at the Hugo Boss event at the Guggenheim. Julianne Moore along with all sorts of glamorous individuals sipped champagne and indulged in this gorgeous affair.
Just another Thursday night in the Big Apple!

NYC's Latest Events
NYC's Latest Events
There are always so many different events to choose from on any given night.
Recently, I attended the Blanc de Chine Fashion Show held upstairs in the Madison Avenue store. This Hong Kong retailer offers men and women simple, chic elegance by designing just the right outfit for upcoming holiday events.
I'd also like to mention the new show, "Spectacle" with Elvis Costello on the Sundance Channel.
The launch party was held at the Edison Ballroom, it was a grand and festive evening had by all. Spectacle premieres on December 3rd at 9 pm.
Two charity events I attended last night included, the La Perla store party benefiting the Gilda Radner charity and The Cool vs. Cruel awards at the Bowery Hotel with special guests: Loris Diran, Richie Rich and Jay McCarroll of Project Runway fame.
These organizations remind us the importance of the holidays, to gather together with friends and family as well as to make a difference in the world we live in..
Charity Events and Product Launches
Charity Events and Product Launches
I realize it's been a while since I've written. No excuse is a good excuse, therefore, I will spare the plea for sympathy other than the fact my hotmail account was hacked earlier this week. I'm glad I made it back from Nigeria in one piece..Life goes on.. Charity begins at home as they say. The most recent charity events I'd like to highlight include The Plate by Plate event and Autism Speaks Events. Celebrity chefs prepared savory dishes for all to enjoy with proceeds donated those truly in need.
One of my favorites was also the Wildlife Fund.org benefit dinner at the Ritz Carlton in Battery Park City. Guests were introduced to rare and exotic breeds of animals mainly found in the Amazon Rain Forest. Seeing and touching these creatures reinforced the urgency in me to share with everyone how important it is and will be in the future to protect endangered species, our future really and truly does depend on it and for generations to come.
The Kiss My Face Product launch held in glamorous Penthouse apartment on the Upper West Side was a real treat too. The KMF line has always been a brand I support: the soaps, lip balms and this time, holiday launch with face products was a really fantastic way to enhance health and beauty while being socially responsible.
Last night was an unexpected evening of fun and a great way to kick off the holidays.
Wolmann Ice Skating Rink was so much fun. My ankles were hurting since it had been a while since I had gone on the ice and really let loose...Skating to dance music is the ultimate high--I recommend it to everyone, before it gets to cold. On that note, time to bundle up and brave the elements..
Have a great week everyone...
Best wishes

The Chelsea Hotel: Atlantic City, NJ
The Chelsea Hotel: Atlantic City, NJ
Room 1708, this was where I stayed on Friday night at one of the hottest, newest, non-gaming hotels in Atlantic City, this boutique hotel is called The Chelsea.
This summer I spent a few weekends away from NYC and other popular destinations to focus on this one-of-a-kind town. There is something about Atlantic City that appeals to my traveling companions and me. It’s safe to say this is a place destined to be the next Hamptons and Vegas. I almost feel like a local now, discovering new places to frequent away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
There is the boardwalk and beautiful beach with calm waves and warm water. The vendors along the boardwalk sell t-shirts with something along the lines of: “I don’t need an encyclopedia, my wife knows everything.” Besides the obvious campy, Venice Beach meets Coney Island appeal of Altantic City, visitors can enjoy some of the best live entertainment with musical acts: The Black Crowes, Madonna and Alice Cooper touring there this fall. There are plenty of casinos around if you have gambling fever as well as a taste for fine dining and casual dining too.
The Chelsea Hotel opened during July 4th weekend and officially opened its doors on August 1st.
The façade of the hotel has a fifties feel complete with the hip diner, Teplitzky’s.
Teplitzky’s reminded me of Swingers in West Los Angeles and also the original Bob’s Big Boy in Toluca Lake. Guests are able to dine overlooking the saltwater pool (due to open on November 1st of this year).
Inside the lobby of The Chelsea, I got a kick out of the ceramic mushroom sculptures and gold seashell lighting fixtures. The library really grabbed our attention too.
The halls ways are sort of a seventies brown with lighter beige flowers and striped carpeting. Guest rooms are complete with table lamps in the shape of a Toucan parrot.
Our beds were soft and luxurious with ample amounts of down pillows accompanied by a down comforter too. I felt so at home in our guest room, I spent most of our time in bed feeling warm and snuggly watching “Sex and The City” reruns and the Travel Channel while sipping mango mimosas and nibbling on fresh fruit.
Kiehl’s products were a real treat to have in my room along with an honor bar complete with: Chewing gum, beef jerky, a disposable camera and the most unexpected, a sealed box from Kiki De Montparnasse (oh, how I wanted to open up this box to find out what was inside!). There was also soda, bottles of wine and mixers available. I woke up in the morning and was greeted with “The New York Post” just outside my door.
The Fifth floor features sprawling spaces: both indoor and outside. The indoor spaces include a glamorous fireplace, a pool-table and plenty of retro board games. “It’s a beautiful morning” was the song playing when I woke up and ventured upstairs at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday and I enjoyed lounging about while checking out this incredible space.
Outdoors, you will find a very inviting swimming pool and bar, along with a spacious terrace facing the ocean.
The Chelsea Prime restaurant also boasts one of the best water views and guests will be impressed with the rare collection of black and white photos of some very recognizable subjects: Jayne Mansfield, Marilyn Monroe, the Beatles and of course, the bathing beauties from the Mermaid Parade are just some of the images that caught my eye.
My time was well-spent and very relaxing at The Chelsea. The staff was warm and friendly. They made us feel welcomed and we would go back and be repeat guests because we loved our experience so much there. The spa is due to open in November. Rooms at The Chelsea for Spring/Summer 2009 are anticipated to be booked up in advance, so call and make your reservations at 800.548.3030. The Chelsea Hotel is located at 111 So. Chelsea Avenue, Atlantic City, NJ 08401. Midweek rates start at $129 and weekend rates at $279.00. Special packages are available and also, there is a Penthouse Suite complete with a solid gold loveseat, bar and tub-for-two (prices are available upon request).
The Chelsea Hotel is a legendary spot in the making, be sure and ask to stay in Room 1708, you will be glad you did…
Fashion Week Wrap-up 2009
Fashion Week Wrap-up 2009
It's hard to believe it's over. For everyone's liver and state of mind, perhaps it's a good thing. Friday night ended on an uber-chic note with Chado Ralph Rucci. Robert Verdi from "Full Frontal Fashion" and Miss Jay from "America's Next Top Model" walked in right before my friend and me did.
Each model stopped to make a dramatic pause for all guests in the tent. It was a fantastic way to depart Bryant Park's shows until February.
Afterwards it was very "Rock and Roll High School" over at Arena.
The evening was topped off at the Mark Bouwer after-party on 14th Street. The guests were friendly and it was a good vibe overall.
This weekend has been spent regrouping from all the wonderful, wackiness of Fashion Week!
Dazed and Confused At Fashion Week!
Dazed and Confused At Fashion Week!
As I've mentioned before, the beginning Fashion Week can be overwhelming. So much has gone on, I have difficulty remembering which shows I've actually seen. My favorite this season was by Iodice, (which I have yet to pronounce correctly).
The Housing Works benefit party was better than expected. Guests were treated to complimentary manicures and free blue jeans too. The Nigel Barker event at Bloomindale's downtown was a bit crazed. We waited on each floor the department store before taking the escalator to the fifth floor, but enjoyed the experience just the same.
Yesterday at lunch, Richard Chai's show was filld with your usual favorites: Anna Wintour and the handsome, blonde man, nicely dressed, the buyer from Neiman Marcus--I forget his name, but he was front row center as pleasant as ever.
Milly took a different direction by showing a high-class hippie look. Lots of vibrant patterns, lace and bo-ho chic.
The Wren presentation was off-site in midtown followed by a rooftop party at the Empire Hotel with Constantine from Amercian Idol.
Today is a somber, September 11th, it is difficult to think about Fashion today, but we should take a moment to reflect on this day in history and not let it become just a blur or another day on the calendar.
Day 2 and Day 3 of Fashion Week: Spring 2009
Day 2 and Day 3 of Fashion Week: Spring 2009
By days two and three most editors and staff are exhausted during Fashion Week. It's a fun, crazy world inside the tents of Bryant Park and the outside shows as well.
Saturday afternoon I missed the Abaete show and went over to the Westin for the Couture Shows for Prince Edward III (a real prince from Africa and a regular plaid-clad regular during Fashion Week) Our friend Pearl even modeled in his show!
The Karen Walker Spring 2009 collection show was over at The Altman Building and we bumped into Mickey Boardman from Paper Magazine, he was seated in the same row a few people down from us.
It started to pour--Hurricane Hannah was hitting the east coast! The next show was over at The Exchange--way over near 12th Avenue in Chelsea for James Coviello.
We were getting soaked after the show and luckily found a car service to take us and two new friends down to Bond Street for the next fashion event.
Then it was back to the tents for Alexandre Herchcoovitch followed by the crazy/coolness of Rock and Republic. One of the Olsen sisters (Mary-Kate was it Ashley) was front and center. I was (gasp) in the standing section for R and R until one of the volunteers graciously offered me a seat.
Day Two:
Lela Rose was a big hit even at 10:00 a.m. My friend and yours truly sat in the second row (not bad after scoring front row seats for most shows thus far.
The DKNY show was getting really crowded. We decided to leave the insanity for a couple of hours to regroup.
I went back to the tents and picked up a pair of Haviannas, then shared a cab over to the Milk Gallery rooftop for the Tim Hamilton presentation filled with gorgeous, pretty-boy models throughout.
Harlan Bell at the Altman Building was crazed as was House of Cassette around the corner at the Met Pavillion.
Aloha Rag celebrated their store opening followed by a festive cocktail party at Don Hills--yes, Don Hills!
The last show of the evening was Carlos Campos, our friend and designer Loris Doran was all smiles as usual--then you guessed it--home to rest and start all over again today!
Day One of Fashion Week-Friday, 9.5.08
Day One of Fashion Week-Friday, 9.5.08
Since I have become a "Fashion Junkie" not to be confused with a "Fashion Victim" mind you, even though I have my "ugh" days most of the time, I decided to break free from my office and get a bit more of my addiction kick on by attending the "Steinunn" presentation" during my lunch break.
On stage, models posed alongside mannequins. Some of them (the models) really got into character and made it a fun experience.
After work, I stopped by the Westin for the Couture Fashion Week shows and it was really crowded and ended up going downtown to the Iris Loeffler show on East Broadway.
While I was taking pictures, I heard someone behind me whisper to his friend, "She thinks she's a photographer." I turned around and said to him politely, yet firmly, "EXCUSE ME?" I contiuned in a sing-songy tone, "Did you get some nice shots? I think I did." Normally, I avoid confrontation, but Fashion Week does not always translate into bitchy. On second thought, maybe it does! Nonetheless, it was a great show and I love my Stila lipstick from the goodie bag.
At close to 7, I went over to the tents and it was elbow-to-elbow inside. I waited for a friend and fellow journalist to go to an after-party in Tribeca. We then came back up to Bryant Park (the hotel) for the Ottavia et Emma collection and you guessed it--another mobscene. Luckily, my friend knew the publicist and we were whisked right in.
I headed home close to ten as my feet hurt and it was only the beginning of...FASHION WEEK.
